“居瓦”是皮大衣的意思。这种皮大衣大多是冬季出野外的人穿的。新疆的冬季十分寒冷，遇到寒流，气温可达摄氏零下三十多度。在这种滴水成冰的寒冷日子里，没有一件可御寒的大衣是不行的。“居瓦”的领子有30厘米左右长，袖子也要比手长30多厘米，下身可拖到地面，腰围也比一般大衣大一倍多。其材料大都选用黑色的长毛老羊皮。制作时皮板朝外，毛朝里，外面不挂布面。其重量可达10多公斤。这种长而肥大的皮大衣在野外过夜，既可当被和褥，又可隔潮和保暖。过去冬季坐马车，赶路人和车夫离了这种“居瓦”，一般是不敢“轻举妄动”的。
如今，交通条件已大大改善，人们不再穿“居瓦”赶路，但享受过“居瓦”温暖的人，仍不会忘记它。
