长江下游著名煤炭转运口岸。位于江苏省南京市区西北部，长江北岸，与下关隔江相望。现为南京市浦口区人民政府驻地，人口4万余。明初建都南京,洪武四年(1371)于此筑城设防以拱卫京师；洪武九至二十四年为江浦县治。以地居浦子河入江之口，改名浦子口。清末简称今名。1911年津浦铁路建成，交通地位益加重要。1912年辟为商埠。1927年划属南京市。1935年南京长江铁路轮渡建成，为北岸转输站。1968年南京长江大桥建成通车，津浦、沪宁两铁路连成一体，客货列车不再经此，交通形势有所变化。沿江建有南京港煤炭和杂货码头，是长江沿岸最大煤炭转运口岸。有轮渡与下关联系。
