含硫甙(thioglycosides)又称芥子油甙,水解后生成异硫氰酸酯类(芥子油)与葡萄糖。这些酯类为有一定挥发性的油状液体,一般具有特殊气味,本类甙在十字花科植物中广泛分布,并有芥子酶共存,当含此类甙的中草药加水研磨时即因酶解生成异硫氰酸酯类而具刺激或其它生物性。如芥子中的芥子甙(sinigrin)酶解后生成的黑芥子油即异硫氰酸丙烯酯,外用为皮肤发赤剂,有局部止痛、消炎作用。白芥子中的白芥子甙(sinalbin)酶解后生成白芥子油即异硫氰酸对羟基苄酯,有相似作用。萝卜根中的特殊气味,即由其含有的萝卜甙(glucoraphenln)酶解后生成的萝卜芥子油所致。
