堡子山原名观山，坐落在泾源县城东南角。 堡子山就象卧于香水川的一条巨龙，又似一位坚强的卫士，屹立于县城东，显得威武雄壮，巍峨挺拔。站在海拔1958米高的堡子山上，泾源县城尽收眼底，新建的幢幢楼房，层层叠叠拔地而起，举目眺望，群峰叠岸，满目青山，清奇郁秀，更增添了山城的壮美。 如今古老的堡子山土城墙换成了砖墙，别致玲珑的乘凉亭立于"龙头"之上，显得峭拔秀丽。登上"龙"廊，西可饱览泾源山城胜景，东有果园，北有松涛，南有桃林，一片锦绣风光。晨观日出，一轮红日从山凹里升起，霞光万道，映照山川。山谷间烟波浩渺，薄雾蒙蒙，远处关山时隐时显，烟浓雾凝似万马奔腾，如海浪翻滚，万千气象，尤为壮观 。 堡子山今日已成为泾源人民游览的场所，每逢节假日，工余饭后，人们纷纷来到山城公园游览，惬意非常。
