【来源】
为小檗科植物刺黄柏的根、茎或树皮。
【植物形态】
刺黄柏 落叶灌木，高1米左右。小枝稍有棱角，二年生枝带黄或暗棕色，枝上具有变态叶的针刺，刺单一或分3叉，长1.5～3厘米。单叶互生，或簇生在短枝上；椭圆形、倒卵形或倒卵状长椭圆形，长2～6厘米，宽1.5～3.5厘米，先端圆钝，基部楔形，边缘有短芒状锯齿，下面灰白色，网纹凸出。花10～12朵成顶生的总状花序，长约6厘米，花两性，径约1厘米，具柄；萼片6，黄色，呈花瓣状，倒卵形，基部有2～3个苞片：花瓣6，通常较萼片小，基部具2蜜腺；雄蕊6，与花瓣对生，药2瓣裂；心皮1枚，子房上位，椭圆形，柱头无柄。浆果椭圆形，血红色，微被粉状物。花期5月。果期11月。 生于山谷石隙间或溪边林下、山地灌丛中。分布安徽、江西、浙江等地。

秋季采收。
【性味】
味苦，性寒。
【功用主治】
清热，燥湿，利尿，杀虫。治黄疸，目疾，热痢下血，淋浊带下，疮疡热毒。
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，1.5～3钱。
【选方】
治热结小便不畅及无名毒疮：安徽小檗树皮三钱。水煎服。
