Using conditional test, the n-octyl n-decyl adipate was synthesized from octyl alcohol, decyl alcohol and adipic acid by direct esterification.

分子式C10H20O2，结构式CH3(CH2)8COOH,分子量172.26。白色晶体，有不愉快的气味。熔点31.4℃、沸点270℃、密度（20/4℃）0.8858g/cm3。不溶于水、溶于乙醇、乙醚、苯、氯仿等有机溶剂，还溶于稀硝酸。主要用于制取香料、果子香精，塑料增塑剂及合成树脂等。可由椰子油制得的脂肪酸经分馏后可以得到纯度为90％的正癸酸。
