利用快速运动的砂带作为磨具进行磨削和拋光的磨床。砂带磨床分为万能砂带磨床﹑外圆砂带磨床﹑内圆砂带磨床﹑平面砂带磨床和型面砂带磨床等。自20世纪50年代以来﹐砂带磨床已发展成为高效率的精加工设备。砂带磨床的加工精度一般可保证在±5微米之内﹐效率比用砂轮的磨床高数倍﹐而功率消耗仅为其几分之一。砂带磨床主要用于加工﹕大尺寸板材﹐特别是耐热难加工材料的板材如不锈钢板﹑钛合金板等﹔大量生产的平面零件如印刷电路板﹑硅钢片和密封垫片等﹔复杂型面如透平叶片﹑大尺寸棒材﹑薄壁长内孔件和压铸件等。砂带磨床的基本结构和作用是﹕驱动轮带动砂带运动﹐惰轮用以张紧砂带﹔接触轮或支承板位于砂带背面﹐用以产生对工件的接触压力和形成切削角度﹔位于工件背面的支承轮﹑工作台或输送带等作进给运动﹔外圆砂带磨床则由头架和尾座顶尖支承工件。在宽砂带磨床或高精度砂带磨床上都带有砂带轴向振荡装置﹐使砂带磨损均匀﹐以提高工件的尺寸精度和光洁程度。
