This study deals with the capacity for nutrient conservation,the balance of carbon and oxygen as well as the buffering of acid rain in the succession of vegetation of lower subtropical zone of southern China.

中国一所专门培养热带作物高级科技人才的高等院校。1958年 4月创建于海南省儋县。与华南热带作物科学研究院实行统一领导，教学和科研生产相结合。1986年设有5个系:热带作物栽培系、热带植物保护系、热带作物产品加工系、热带作物机械化系、热带农业经济系。1985～1986学年,在校学生1272人,其中本科生910人,研究生15人；教师292人，其中教授11人，副教授28人,讲师95人。全院现有47个实验室，并同华南热带作物科学研究院共同建有试验实习基地，还设有测试中心、计算中心和附属工厂等。图书馆有图书20多万册，各种期刊1500多种。建院以来至1986年，为国家培养本科毕业生2429人。至1985年，获得主要科研成果24项，其中获部、省级以上奖励的9项。1980年10月,该院与美国夏威夷大学热带农业和人类资源学院建立了友好协作关系。
