又称“外周淋巴器官”、“二级淋巴器官”。淋巴细胞活化、增殖、分化和定居的场所。也是免疫反应进行的场所。包括脾脏、淋巴结，咽扁桃体、阑尾、肠集合淋巴结以及消化道及呼吸道黏膜的许多分散的淋巴小结和弥散淋巴组织。脾脏是T淋巴细胞和B淋巴细胞定居和增殖的场所，提供特异性细胞免疫及体液免疫；脾脏中B淋巴细胞比较大，是产生特异性抗体的主要基地。淋巴结是T淋巴细胞及B淋巴细胞集居的场所，而以T淋巴细胞的比例较大，在异物入侵后，淋巴结产生细胞免疫和体液免疫以排除异己抗原；淋巴结通过淋巴窦内巨噬细胞、抗体及其他免疫分子的作用杀灭微生物，防止其扩散。
