通过物理、化学和生物学等实验室方法对病人的血液、排泄物、分泌物、体液、组织细胞等标本进行全面分析的诊断方法。由于光学和电子仪器的迅速发展，先进的实验室技术不断涌现，实验室检查的诊断日趋重要，已成为临床诊断不可缺少的组成部分。但由于标本的采取、保存、仪器的稳定性和技术人员操作的熟练程度不同等原因，往往会导致实验结果误差。因此，当实验室结果与临床表现不符时，必须结合病史和体格检查作系统地全面地考虑，偶然的阳性或阴性皆不应视为肯定或否定临床断的依据。
