美国围生期协作研究报道妊娠期腮腺炎发病率为1/1000例活产。Ylinen等报道在早孕期患腮腺炎的孕妇，其婴儿22%有出生缺陷，但未证实这些出生缺陷确系腮腺炎所致。Siegel等报道孕妇患腮腺炎后流产率增加，但无其他胚胎损伤的迹象。Manson等观察501例孕妇患腮腺炎，其后果与对照组无差异。关于妊娠期患腮腺炎与婴儿原发心内膜纤维细胞增生的关系迄今未得到证实。妊娠期中腮腺炎活疫苗是禁用的，由于理论上活疫苗可能造成胚胎损伤。对早孕期腮腺炎病毒感染者建议终止妊娠，中晚孕期感染者行B超检查除外胎儿畸形，无胎儿畸形者不改变产科处理原则。
