【来源】
为鸭跖草科植物饭包草的全草。
【植物形态】
饭包草 匍匐、多年生草本，或茎上部上举，多少被毛，节上生根。叶草质；椭圆状卵形，长3～7厘米，宽1.5～4厘米，先端钝或短尖，基部急剧收缩而成一阔柄，鞘和叶柄被疏长毛。佛焰毡与上部叶对生，或2～4个聚生，有极短的柄，漏斗形而压扁，长和宽约8～14毫米，淡绿色，被疏毛；花蓝色，每一毡内数朵；萼片3，膜质；花瓣3，长3～4毫米。蒴果膜质，长4～5毫米，有种子5颗，粗糙。花期夏、秋。 生于阴湿地或林下。分布华东及长江流域以南各地。

《福建民间草药》："苦，寒，无毒。"
【功用主治】
《福建中草药》："清热解毒，利水消肿。"
【用法与用量】
内服：煎汤，1～2两；或捣汁。外用：捣敷。
【选方】
①治小便不通，淋沥作痛：竹叶菜一至二两，酌加水煎，可代茶常饮。(《福建民间草药》) ②治赤痢：鲜饭包草二至三两，水煎服。(《福建中草药》) ③治疔疮肿毒，红肿疼痛：竹叶菜一握，以冷开水洗净，和冬蜜捣匀敷贴，口换二次。(《福建民间草药》) ④治蛇伤：鲜竹叶菜，以冷开水洗净，捣烂绞汁冷服，渣敷伤部。(《福建民间草药》)
