此瘤主要由神经轴柱组成，多见于面部、颈后、上睑等处，肿瘤可沿神经及其分支向各方面发展，累及范围广，并可沿脊神经进入脊髓。如肿瘤在皮下则沿神经干可以摸到大小不等的肿块，直径一般1～2cm，往往由多数肿瘤连贯如串球。但亦可仅见1～2个肿物，常沿三叉神经及较高的颈神经分布。病变部皮肤可增厚，并有色素沉着、粗糙而称之为“神经瘤”，状似象皮病，如发于面部称之为“巨面征”，一般无自觉不适，但有时由于神经被压迫，可有疼痛或感觉异常。治疗手术切除，如发生于颅内或椎管内则预后凶险。镭及X线疗法一般无效。〔丶〕
