也称马扎尔语 (Magyar language)。匈牙利的官方语言。属乌拉尔语系芬兰－乌戈尔语族乌戈尔语支。 使用人口1400多万,其中匈牙利本土约有1000万,其余 400 多万分散在罗马尼亚、捷克斯洛伐克、南斯拉夫等国。匈牙利民族世称马扎尔人，他们的祖先是乌拉尔以东大草原的游牧民族，于 5～9世纪被迫西移，9世纪末定居于现在的匈牙利，并把自己的语言带到欧洲。匈牙利语有8种方言,各方言之间差别不大。语音的明显特点是元音和谐现象。元音按发音部位的不同分 3类：后元音、前圆唇元音和前展唇元音，后元音和前圆唇元音一般不同时出现在同一个词中；辅音丛很简单，而且很少出现在词首。单词重音落在第一个音节上。匈牙利语属粘着型语言。语法范畴通常用加后缀的方法表示；名词有数和格的变化，无语法性别；形容词和数词作修饰语时无须跟被修饰语一致。匈牙利语的日期按年、月、日次序，姓名是先姓后名，与汉语同。词汇中有来自突厥语言、高加索语言、以及拉丁、斯拉夫语言的借词，现代有来自西欧语言，特别是德语的不少借词。匈牙利语文字采用经过修改的拉丁字母，并使用一些变音符号，如 ó表示长元音，表示长的前圆唇元音等。
