又称平衡蒸馏，是一种连续、定态的单级蒸馏方法。将料液加热至闪蒸室操作压力下的泡点温度以上（见图），然后经节流阀降低到预定压力。由于压力突然降低，过热的料液发生自蒸发，使部分液体汽化。在闪蒸室内将汽液两相分开，得到两股大体处于相平衡状态的产物。汽相产物易挥发组分含量较高，液相产物难挥发组分含量较高，从而得到一定程度的分离。闪急蒸馏可认为是绝热过程（见热力学过程），汽化所需的潜热由物料本身的显热提供。因此，过程完成后系统的温度下降。
因受相平衡关系的制约，闪急蒸馏的分离程度不高。工业上多用来对组分间沸点相差较大的液体混合物进行初分，如原油的稳定（脱除轻烃、硫化氢）、炼油过程的初分等。
