It is found that the location of the maximum velocity appears below free surface by a series of experiments on velocity distribution and the distribution of sediment concentration in open channel flows.

The blending process of the density current and the forming process of the turbid water reservoir are observed through building the reservoir before dam, and the vertical distribution of sediment before the dam is obtained in the experiment.
