   法国启蒙思想家,哲学家。出生于巴黎一宫廷医生家庭,早年接受自由主义思想,曾任总包税官,后辞职专事著述。他继承和发展了J.洛克的唯物主义经验论,反对“天赋观念”和“自省”经验,认为感觉是一切知识的根本源泉,但他走向极端,认为一切都可归结到感觉。他试图建立以人性论为基础的道德学说,认为自爱心是人的本性,利益是决定人的行为的动力和判断人的行为的道德标准,提出合理利己主义观点。认为人的性格取决于社会环境和政治制度。他主张教育万能,要求清除天主教的蒙昧主义和封建专制,通过发展教育完美社会政治制度和法律,为人创造有利于发展私欲的环境。著有《论精神》、《论人的理智能力和教育》等。
