The ice disaster at the beginning in 2008 had enabled designers to re-reflect upon the influence of icing on transmission line in electricity industry and some technical codes of ice-resistant designing had been compiled one after the other.

Recorded icing data of power transmission line is rarely in China,so it is difficult to determine the design icing thickness,and is mainly obtained by sitting investigation and short-term icing observation.
2008年南方大冰灾中的实测资料为覆冰设计提供了直接依据,但若简单以本次冰灾的覆冰厚度折算成标准冰厚作为设计覆冰,而不考虑实际运行情况,往往会使设计覆冰取值偏于保守,造成资源浪费。
