【吲哚】(indole)亦称“氮杂茚”。分子式`C_8H_7N`。分子量117.15。存在于粪、煤焦油、茉莉油、橙花油中,无色小叶状或板状晶体。有极强的烘臭味,纯品稀释后有新鲜的花香味。熔点52℃,沸点253-254℃。可水蒸气蒸馏。溶于热水、乙醇、乙醚、苯。在空气中变红色并逐渐树脂化。呈弱酸性,与碱金属成盐,与酸作用则树脂化或聚合。吲哚的吡咯环易被还原和易发生亲电取代反应。工业上由煤焦油(240-260℃的馏分)分离而得,或以邻氨基乙苯经脱氢
