【来源】
为蔷薇科植物垂丝海棠的花。
【植物形态】
垂丝海棠 乔木，高达5米，树冠疏散。小枝幼时紫色，初有毛，后脱落。叶卵形、椭圆形，或椭圆状卵形，长3.5～12厘米，宽1.5～3.5厘米，先端渐尖，基部楔形，边缘锯齿细小而钝，上面暗绿色，有光泽，常带紫晕，除中脉上有毛外，余均光滑；叶柄有细软毛，基部附有小突起。花4～7朵簇生，色红艳，径3～3.5厘米；花梗细长垂下，与萼同为紫色，无毛；萼片卵形，端钝，边缘有白毛；花瓣常在5数以上；花柱4～5，基部有白毛，其顶生花常无雌蕊。梨果倒卵形，紫色。 产我国西南部，现已广为栽培。
