From 1999～2002, an investigation on amphibian and reptile was carried out in Ka ixian County of Chongqing Municipality.
1999～ 2 0 0 2年对开县的两栖爬行动物资源进行了大规模调查 ,初步发现有两栖类 17种 ,其中有尾目 2种 ,无尾目 15种 ;爬行类 2 3种 ,其中龟鳖目 2种 ,有鳞目蜥蜴亚目 8种、蛇亚目 13种 (含重庆市蛇类新记录 1属 1种 )。

属于脊椎动物亚门。是从水生过渡到陆生的脊椎动物，具有水生脊椎动物与陆生脊椎动物的双重特性。它们既保留了水生祖先的一些特征，如生殖和发育仍在水中进行，幼体生活在水中，用鳃呼吸，没有成对的附肢等；同时幼体变态发育成成体时，获得了真正陆地脊椎动物的许多特征，如用肺呼吸，具有五趾型四肢等。两栖类动物约有2000多种，常见的如大鲵，俗称"娃娃鱼"，以及蛙类等。
