[Method] The medullary index and scale pattern of straight guard hair from the back,abdomen,neck and hip of large indian civet(Viverra zibetha),small Indian civet(Viverricula indica) and masked palm civet(Paguma larvata) was stduied by scanning electronic microscope and polarizing microscope.

| 猫科 Felidae；cat family 哺乳纲食肉目的一科。体型中、大，躯体均匀，四肢中长，趾行性。头大而圆，吻部较短，视、听、嗅觉均很发达。犬齿及裂齿极发达；上裂齿具三齿尖，下裂齿具2齿尖 ；臼齿较退化，齿冠直径小于外侧门齿高度；齿式  。皮毛柔软，常具显著花纹。前足5趾，后足4趾；爪锋利，可伸缩（猎豹属爪不能完全缩回）。尾一般较发达。多数善攀缘及跳跃。大多喜独居。肉食，常以伏击方式捕杀其他热血动物 。在欧亚大陆 、非洲、南北美洲的寒带到热带均有分布。共5属，36种，中国产4属13种。猫科中虎、狮、豹、美洲豹、猎豹、雪豹、云豹、猞猁等均为著名观赏动物，狮、虎常被马戏团驯化表演；家猫为捕鼠能手和著名宠物；猎豹可驯化狩猎；虎骨酒可治疗风湿性炎症；虎、豹和猞猁的皮毛极为名贵。许多种现已列为保护动物。 |
