珠母贝 pearl oysters 软体动物门双壳纲翼形亚纲珍珠贝目珍珠贝科贝类的通称。主要分布在热带和亚热带海域。中国东南沿海已发现约20种。 珠母贝的贝壳较大,壳质坚厚,近圆形或方形。背缘直,前后有耳状突起。右壳前耳下方具明显的足丝孔。壳表有各种生长鳞片,壳呈灰白色、黄褐色、绿褐色等。贝壳内面珍珠层厚,具美丽的珍珠光泽。肌痕大,马蹄形。足丝发达。栖息于低潮线附近至潮线下60米以内的浅海底,以足丝附着在岩石或珊瑚礁上。繁殖力强。珠母贝肉味鲜美,可食用;所产珍珠的经济价值更高;壳和珠还可入药。
