| 珠母贝 pearl oysters 软体动物门双壳纲翼形亚纲珍珠贝目珍珠贝科贝类的通称。主要分布在热带和亚热带海域。中国东南沿海已发现约20种。 珠母贝的贝壳较大，壳质坚厚，近圆形或方形。背缘直，前后有耳状突起。右壳前耳下方具明显的足丝孔。壳表有各种生长鳞片，壳呈灰白色、黄褐色、绿褐色等。贝壳内面珍珠层厚，具美丽的珍珠光泽。肌痕大，马蹄形。足丝发达。栖息于低潮线附近至潮线下60米以内的浅海底，以足丝附着在岩石或珊瑚礁上。繁殖力强。珠母贝肉味鲜美，可食用；所产珍珠的经济价值更高；壳和珠还可入药。
