描述SphenocleaGaertn.密穗桔梗属，桔梗科，只有密穗桔梗S.zeylanicaGaertn.1种，广布于温带地区，为华南稻田中常见杂草之一，但为害不大。一年生草本，喜生于稻田中；单叶互生，全缘；花小，无柄，与苞片和小苞片聚合而成一稠密、侧生和顶生的穗状花序；萼5裂；花冠辐状，5裂，裂片覆瓦状排列；雄蕊5，与花冠裂片互生；子房2室，几乎全下位，有胚珠极多数，着生于中轴胎座上；蒴果盖裂，有多数细小的种子。
