信息资源的共享性是指信息资源可以为许多用户所共同使用的特征。物质资源和能源资源的利用表现为占有和消耗。当物质资源或能源资源量一定时，各利用者在资源利用上总是存在着明显的竞争关系，而信息资源的利用则不存在这种竞争关系。在信息资源的使用中使用者彼此之间不存在直接的制约作用，同一信息资源可以同时被不同的使用者所利用。信息资源的这种共享性为信息资源在社会经济生活中更有效地发挥作用奠定了基础：信息资源开发出来以后，不同的信息资源获得者都可以根据自身的情况对信息资源进行开发与利用，使得信息资源作为资源在社会经济生活中充分的体现出其价值来。
