夹竹桃科常绿灌木或小乔木。叶三枚轮生,中脉明显,侧脉密而平行;聚伞花序顶生,花萼直立,花冠粉红至深红色;骨突果长圆形。原产印度及伊朗。
具实验得出:每公斤夹竹桃吸汞96毫克,每月每片叶能吸收硫69毫克,经受氯气熏染后,其叶片含氯比未熏叶片高4倍,每平方米夹竹桃能吸滞灰尘达5000毫克之多,但有剧毒,适宜栽种在工厂而不宜在学校多种,不过其叶含强心苷、欧夹竹桃苷,用于治疗心力衰竭。
