| 石松植物门 Lycophyta 一组很古老的维管植物。最早出现于早泥盆世早期。到石炭二叠纪最为繁盛，乔木类型的鳞木和封印木与节蕨门的芦木共同繁殖在北半球热带沼泽地区，形成森林。古生代以后迅速衰退，木本类型几乎绝迹。到现代仅有5个属。石松植物的枝两歧分叉，叶无叶隙为小型叶，叶具单脉，螺旋状或直行排列，遍布茎枝。孢子叶常密集成孢子叶球，在每个孢子叶腹面基部着生一个孢子囊。孢子同形或异形。在原始的石松植物中，孢子囊具有同形孢子。孢子叶不聚集成孢子叶球。石炭二叠纪的鳞木目植物具有异形孢子（大、小两种孢子）和孢子叶球（由孢子叶聚集而成）。 该门一般分为6目：①镰蕨目。小型草本。无叶舌，亦无叶座和叶痕。孢子同形。发现于泥盆纪。②原始鳞木目。多数为草本。无叶舌。叶座有时不清晰，一般无叶痕。孢子同形。出现于泥盆纪至早石炭世。③鳞木目。乔木状。具叶舌、叶座和叶痕。孢子异形。出现于石炭纪至二叠纪。④水韭目。草本。具有叶舌。孢子异形。出现于三叠纪到现代。⑤石松目。草本。无叶舌。孢子同形。出现于晚泥盆世到现代。⑥卷柏目。草本。具有叶柄。孢子异形。出现于早石炭世到现代。
