年龄跨越和年龄结年龄跨越是被调查人夸大或缩小自己的真实年龄的行为。造成年龄跨越的原因是极为复杂的，它既可能出于被调查人的年龄概念不清，也可能出于蓄意错报。如在尊崇老年人的社会中，人们有可能习惯夸大年龄。有些和本民族独特的计算年龄方法有关，如中国使用的阴历历法是将出生的婴儿规定为1岁。 年龄结也叫年龄堆积。以某一数字结尾的年龄或某一年龄的人口远远超过其他数字结尾年龄或其附近年龄的人口的一种现象。造成年龄堆积现象的原因是所谓“数字偏好”，即被调查人报告年龄时倾向于以某一数字结尾。数字偏好往往出于年龄概念不清。很多社会中，人们对自己年龄有一定的认识，但这种认识是极不准确的，它可能基于生理外观的变化，或家庭生命周期的演屯，甚至可能和所在区域的自然景观变化持正相关联系。这种模粕，胜使被调查人在报告自己年龄时选择某一最熟悉的数字结尾。。交5是最自然的选择。
