鹤望兰，又名极乐鸟花，属芭蕉科鹤望兰属多年生常绿宿根草本花卉。原产南非及拉丁美洲，是著名的观赏花卉。鹤望兰根部粗壮，肉质，极脆，容易折断；茎极短，很不明显。叶对生6从地卞挫部生出，叶柄纳长，是叶片的2-3倍，正面有沟。叶片革质，两例排列，长椭圆状披针形，长40厘米左右，宽约15厘米左右，顶端锐尖，基部圆润。花茎由叶腋伸出，与叶近等长，一般高出叶面。花顶生，花形奇特，有着橙黄的花尊、深蓝的花瓣、洁白的也头、红紫的总苞，远远望去，宛如引颈高歌的仙鹤头，故得名鹤望兰。北方春夏开花，江南秋冬开花，花期长达50-60天。一盆鹤望兰可开数十朵花，是极好的切花材料和室内陈设盆花。
鹤望兰同属观赏品种有：花白色或蓝色，大花的尼可拉鹤望兰；花白色或紫色的大鹤望兰；深橙红色或紫色的大花无叶鹤望兰。
