1.我国古代中原地区对西域交通的主要道路之一。据《汉书·西域传》，自玉门关和阳关以西，大体经今新疆中部天山山脉和塔里木河之间的通道西行，在疏勒以西越过葱岭，通往今中亚各地。据《隋书·裴矩传》，自敦煌取道伊吾，大体经今新疆天山山脉以北和伊犁河流域的通道西行，通往今中亚和西亚。另据唐道宣《释迦方志》卷上，还有一条自伊州经今天山山脉和塔里木河之间的通道西行，越过凌山，通往今中亚各地的路线。玄奘赴印时，即取此线。 2.泛指向北方的道路。
