Through the descriptions and analyses about the three important authors in the history of Chinese modern novels: Xia Zhiqing, Chen Pingyuan, and Yang Lianfen, this thesis is trying to research into the three factors: novel, historical, and modern characteristics of the essence and significance of the history of Chinese modern novels.
论文以“中国现代小说史”这一特定书写活动作为探讨对象，采取以“个案”带“问题”的方式，通过对夏志清、陈平原、杨联芬三位学者“中国现代小说史”书写实践的描述与分析，围绕以下三个关键词——“小说”史，小说“史”，“现代”——展开探讨：1，作为体裁史的“小说”史，如何区别于普通的文学史书写?2，作为文学史之一部门的“小说史”，如何处理“文学性”与“历史性”的关系?3，中国现代小说史的“现代性”有哪些理解和叙述的途径?论文一方面将以上问题落实到三位学者具体的学术语境中，考查各自的学术史贡献和隐含的文化政治涵义；另一方面注重个体独特性的阐发，对他们呈现问题的特有方式、学术思维形成的内在脉络进行细微追索。
