| 进步教育运动 Progressive Educational Movement 19世纪末20世纪初美国出现的教育革新运动。其性质与欧洲新教育运动相似。是美国19世纪末为适应工业革命 、城乡变化、开发边疆和大量移民的需要而出现的社会改革运动的组成部分。该运动反对当时美国沿袭欧洲形式主义课程、因循守旧的教材教法、繁多的清规戒律以及教育与生产严重脱节的倾向，而代之以全新的课程设计和新颖的教学方法 。进步教育的奠基人F.W.帕克于19世纪70年代在马萨诸塞州昆西市首先进行了新教学方法的实验，创立了昆西教学法 ，其教育改革被认为是美国教育史上的新起点 。尤其是他强调儿童是教学活动的中心，一切精神的、道德的活动有赖于儿童的自我活动的思想成为J.杜威教育思想的直接源泉之一 。1896年，杜威在芝加哥大学开办实验学校，他把当时的手工训练、新教学方法以及学校与社会的联系等因素融在一起 ，被认为是对进步教育运动的一大贡献。20世纪初，M.约翰逊在亚拉巴马州费尔霍普开办了一所与J.-J.卢梭的设想类似的有机教育学校。约翰逊强调不得桎梏儿童的兴趣及能力的发展，取消教师主导、固定课程及考试对学生的束缚。自20世纪20年代始，各种进步学校大量建立。进步教育运动不仅影响初、中等教育，而且还影响到高等教育。1919年，美国成立进步教育协会，1920年公布改进初等学校的7条原则 ：自由发展儿童本性；以兴趣作为一切作业活动的原动力；教师是教学中的指导者，而不能包揽一切；科学研究儿童的发展；注重所有影响儿童身体发展的因素；学校与家庭之间应有密切的配合，以满足儿童生活的需要；确认进步学校在教育运动中的领导地位。30年代后期，进步教育运动达到鼎盛期，进步教育协会会员多达万余人，影响极大。第二次世界大战后，进步教育运动因被认为不能提高教育质量而逐渐衰落。1955年进步教育协会的解体和1957年《进步教育》的停刊，标志着美国教育学一个时代的终结。但进步主义教育作为一种思潮，对美国当代教育仍具有一定影响。 |
