上海市环境学校创建于1974年，是一所以培养环境技术和环境艺术人才为特色的全国重点中等职业技术学校。学校现有教职工210余人，在校学生3000余人，教学设施完善，师资力量雄厚，教学管理规范，校园环境优美。学校现设环境治理技术、生态环境保护、环境保护与监测、环境监理、机电设备安装与维修、汽车运用与维修、环境艺术设计与制作、计算机及应用8个专业，其中，环境治理技术为上海市职教系统50个重点专业之一。
学校贯彻“以德立校、以法治校、以特兴校、以质强校”的办学方针。拥有设施设备一流的环境污染治理技术实训中心、汽车运用与维修两个实训基地。建有高标准的计算机房、语音室、电子阅览室和校园网。
学校主动贴近市容环卫行业对人才的需求，于2004年成立了上海市市容环境卫生人才培训中心，开设各类培训班。已举办汽车驾驶及汽车维修初、中、高级工和技师培训班，以及市容环卫管理执法人员、楼宇保洁管理人员、污染处理技术专业人员等16类培训班。为市容环卫行业培训各类急需的中高级技术和管理人才作出了贡献。
学校已连续四届被评为上海市文明单位，2003年通过了iso9001质量管理体系认证；2004年被市教委评为上海市学生行为规范示范学校；2005年被教育部认定为全国重点中等职业技术学校。
