| 秦穆公（?～前621） 中国春秋时期秦国君主，春秋五霸之一。嬴姓，名任好。在位期间任用由余、百里奚、蹇叔、巫豹、公孙支等为谋臣，修明政治，国力强盛。即位当年就打败戎族，其后又击败晋国，俘获晋惠公，助晋公子重耳归晋，并灭了梁、芮等国。在向东进展时，遭到晋的阻击，失利较多，以至在崤（今河南陕县东）全军覆灭。秦国力不如晋，而晋恰好挡住秦东进的道路，使秦很难进入中原。因此，秦只得向西发展，击败附近的戎人以增强自己的力量。秦穆公采纳由余关于伐戎王的正确谋略，收到了“益国十二，开地千里”的战果。周襄王承认他为西方诸侯伯，穆公“遂霸西戎”。同时，秦与南面的楚国加强联系，从穆公以后到春秋末，秦一直与楚共同与晋为敌。 |
