吴闿生编撰的《晚清四十家诗钞》前二卷专录桐城诗派后期诸子的诗作,凸显了桐城派北传之后围绕吴汝纶渐次形成的"冀州—莲池"诗人群体组合,而其诗学批评在继承桐城诗派"诗文一体"、"熔铸唐宋"的基础上,突出了宗风杜甫的祈向,尤其注重涵容雄奇诗风,反映出时代风云之气在内心深处的激荡。
