中国故事片。天马电影制片厂1962年摄制。编剧，彭永辉、李洪辛；导演，张骏祥、顾而已；摄影，周达明;主要演员,王尚信、王熙岩、魏鹤龄、杨梦昶、郑敏等。影片以1922年江西安源煤矿工人大罢工为基础，通过中国共产党人雷焕觉、先进工人易孟子等人的艺术形象，阐明了只有用马克思列宁主义武装起来，在中国共产党的领导下，工人阶级才能从自在的阶级变为自为的阶级，团结起来，取得革命斗争胜利的真理。影片编导以缜密的构思，把劳资之间、工人内部、反动统治阶级内部各种错综复杂的矛盾有条不紊地组织在一起，并在激烈的冲突中刻画人物。几处群众斗争的大场面，如工人萧昌定被杀、封井大搏斗、煤矿大罢工等，处理得很有特色,感染力很强。影片前后呼应,用1905年自发的工人运动领袖被杀、运动失败来衬托在中国共产党领导下罢工斗争的胜利具有很深的寓意。影片节奏明快、气势磅礴。1982年，上海电影制片厂摄制了《燎原》的续集《大泽龙蛇》。
