位于距新疆富蕴县城北部50公里处的可可托海镇，素以“地质矿产博物馆”享誉海内外，是中外地质学者心目中的“麦加”。“三号坑”世界上最大的矿坑，深100多米，长宽数百米，坑内有76种矿共生。其规模之大，矿种之多，品位之高，成带性之分明为国内独有、国外罕见，蕴藏着有锂、铍、铖、钼、铷、铯、铪、铀、钍等多种稀有及放射性元素。正是这个坑，在60年代曾为国家偿还了前苏联三分之一的债务。目前正将“地质三号坑”申办为国家级世界罕见地质博物遗产。
