出版社或著译者个人为纪念、馈赠、展出或其他某些特殊需要而制作的一种版本，又称特装本。特藏本的内容与普通版本一般是相同的，只是装帧更为讲究：有的改变装帧设计形式,有的改用质地更好的纸张材料,有的增配书函、题页等，有的仅仅重新设计封面等外部式样，也可视具体情况，同时采用几种方法。过去鲁迅曾为瞿秋白的《海上述林》印过有纪念意义的特藏本，用上等纸张配以黑绒封面，庄重、大方、华贵，素为读者所珍爱。中华人民共和国成立后出版的50卷中译本《马克思恩格斯全集》的特藏本,则是以原精装书芯,配以玄色羊皮书脊，赤金烫印书名，滚压金色书顶并用布料加固环衬。在西方,出版机构往往应著译者的要求,出版附有编号的特藏本。可附有著(译、编)者的签名,并且数量有限，一般不出售或只预约出售，故具有较高的版本价值。中华人民共和国建国后出版的一些重要著作以及一些主要供对外展出、国际交流之用的书籍大都印制过少量特藏本。此外，个人也可将自己收藏的书重加装订，予以珍藏，这也可以算是一种私人的特藏本。经历史名人收藏过或有作者签名的书，也可作为重要文物成为一种特藏本。
