In order to reduce the energy consumption and improve the efficiency of pumping system,a theoretical model for calculating the input power of sucker-rod pumping system was established.

The input power of a sucker-rod pumping system was divided into hydraulic horsepower,surface mechanical loss power,down-hole viscous friction loss power,down-hole sliding friction loss power and solution gas expanding power.
