用于训练电厂操纵人员的过程控制型的训练仿真器。这种仿真器由计算机、模拟操纵控制台和各种外部设备(如彩色图形显示器)组成。在计算机中储有锅炉、汽轮发电机组等主要设备的数学模型，当操纵人员操作模拟操纵控制台上的开关时，信号便通过输入通道输入计算机。计算机在主控程序的控制下，按照预先编制的数学模型和规律进行运算，并把运算结果通过输出通道实时地送往指示仪表、灯光报警信号器和图形显示器。利用仿真器训练安全可靠、效率高，还能在异常状态下进行。电厂训练器的技术关键是建立电厂的数学模型。以采用锅炉汽轮发电机组的火力发电厂为例，它主要包括锅炉传热模型、风烟燃烧系统模型、汽轮机油系统和调速系统模型、电气和并网过程模型、辅机系统模型等。为了提高训练质量，电厂训练仿真除具有可将全部仿真参数和开关状态突然"冻结"，以检查操作正确性的冻结功能外,还具有追忆功能,即计算机能将事故发生前若干分钟内的主要参数存储起来，以便对事故进行分析。电厂训练仿真器稍加扩展还可以用于对过程的自动调节、计算机控制和对热工过程动态特性等进行仿真研究。
