位于平泉县城西北部60公里处，面积为230平方公里，为“省级森林公园”。因该地山泉众多，水源充沛，为西辽河发源地，故称为“辽河源”。 该景区集高山、森林、草原、清泉、怪石为一体。主峰马盂山，为景区主体，海拔1738米，呈亚高山草原景观。此山山腰林海茫茫，遮天蔽日，山下流水潺潺，泉水叮咚；山上草场广阔，萋草过腰，野花如绣。据《辽史》记载这里为契丹和奚族的发祥地，现遗址和文物有大长公主墓石棺，辽陈国公南院枢密副使窦景庸墓石像、石羊、石虎等。大自然的鬼斧神工，为辽河源造就了诸多景观、景点，如鳄鱼望江石、海豹试冠石、神龟石、石河等数十种像形石，无不维妙维肖。“九龙蟠杨”更为景区一绝，此树树冠巨大，遮地面积近750平方米，九根支干或上扬、或俯探、或平伸，无不弯曲盘旋，似虬龙群戏。 辽河源景区景色优美，气候宜人，四季风光变化万千，是人们返朴归真，回归大自然的理想之地。
