To protect and develop local dialects and dialect culture is an essential way to nourish Putonghua and Chinese language and culture.

These two dialects contain a rich dialect culture, reflecting the cultural heritage of Yulin.

Within the framework of language variation by Halliday, Mclntosh and Strevens and adopting an analytical and systemic approach to the study of translation, this thesis aims at raising reflections on the translation of geographical dialect by examining correlations between geographical dialect and other types of language varieties.

This is a research of Chinese dialects along Xiang River valley from the perspective of dialect geography by investigaging dialects and drawing dialects maps in order to display dialects geographically,to study the distribution rules and the linguistic value of distribution and then to discuss rules for dialects evolution and contact.
