将物体和砝码在天平上进行比较以求得物体的重量的过程,也叫称衡。称量是分析化学实验的重要操作。要取得准确称量结果，操作者必须遵守天平使用规则。化学药品和试样的称量都要在专用的容器中进行。称量方法有两种：①增量法，先将容器(如小皿、称量纸等)的重量称出，然后调整砝码至所需重量，再将被称物体加入容器中,调整天平使处于平衡状态,即称得其重量；②减量法，被称物体置于专用容器称量瓶中，先称出总重量，然后取出称量瓶，按规定操作倾倒出适量被称物后再作称量，通过几次倾倒，最后称得一份符合预定要求重量的样品。被称物的准确重量由最初一次重量减去最后一次重量求得。这一方法适用于称量不能暴露于空气中的物体(如易吸潮的物体和挥发性液体等)，定量分析中的试样和基准物质大都用此法称量。采用此法，可以连续称出多个样品，操作简便。
