【来源】
为棕榈种植物椰子的胚乳，经碾碎烘蒸后所榨取的油。植物形态参见"椰子皮"条。
【药材】
椰子油在热带地方为白色液体，在冷处则为牛油样的固体；有特殊气味，新鲜时气味芬芳。油的比重0.8354，折射率1.4295，碱化值258，碘值8.4～9.3。
【化学成分】
果肉含油量为60～65%。油中含游离脂肪酸20%，羊油酸2%，棕榈酸7%，羊脂酸9%，脂蜡酸5%，羊蜡酸10%，油酸2%，月桂酸45%。 椰子油的甾醇中含豆甾三烯醇4.5%，豆甾醇及岩藻甾醇31.5%，α-菠菜甾醇及甾醇6%，β-谷甾醇58%。
【功用主治】
治疥癣，冻疮。 ①《华夷花木考》："祛暑气。" ②《粤志》："疗齿疾，冻疮。" ③《中国药植图鉴》："搽神经性皮炎。"
