冶金厂最主要的金属塑性加工方法。金属通过旋转的轧辊产生塑性变形。轧制可按轧辊和轧件的相互位置、运动和延伸的方向分为纵轧、横轧和斜轧。轧制也可按金属在轧制时是否立即产生软化(回复和再结晶分为热轧和冷轧。一般把金属在再结晶温度以上的轧制称作热轧,把有加工硬化的轧制称作冷轧。此外,轧制还可按轧制品种分类,如板带材轧制、管材轧制、型材轧制、线材轧制和周期断面轧制等。也有按轧制阶段分为粗轧和精轧的。
