用压缩气体作为动力的工具，又称风动工具。气动工具主要分为冲击式、旋转式和兼具冲击和旋转作用等型式。①冲击式气动工具：由压缩气体驱动活塞往复运动,产生高速锤击作用,完成所需动作。如锤击钎杆、拆除建筑物、破碎路面用的风镐，铆接金属结构用的铆钉枪，清除铸锻件毛刺用的风铲和除锈或捣固砂型用的风锤等。②旋转式气动工具：由压缩气体驱动叶片式气动马达带动工具旋转，完成所需动作。如风动磨头和抛光机，钻孔和扩孔用的高速风钻，拧螺母用的风动搬手和风动旋凿等。③冲击、旋转式气动工具：同时具有冲击和旋转两种动作。如采矿和掘进用的凿岩机，其缸体内的锤头向前移动时冲击钎杆尾端使钎头凿入岩石，回行时带动钎杆旋转一个角度，再开始第二次凿岩动作。④其他风动工具：如气动夹具，动作迅速，夹紧可靠，适用于自动生产线。
