天柱峰又称为皖伯尖，万山尖。《道书》称为司命真人发祥所都，海拔1488.4米，孤立晴宵，顶天立地，石骨嶙峋，峭立如柱。五指、莲花、天池、含珠、飞来、月华诸峰拱卫左右，奇松、怪石、云海、佛光、各领风骚。李白《江上望皖公山》诗云：“奇峰出奇云，秀水含秀气。”白居易《题天柱峰》诗云：“天柱一峰擎日月，洞门千仞锁云雷。”
