Many stone enclosures appeared in Neolithic and early Bronze Age in the middle and southern inner Mongolia,northern Shaanxi,Western Liaoning along the Great Wall are thought to be the prototype of the Great Wall with similar function in defending the invasion of northern ethnic groups on the northern frontier of agricultural and semi-agricultural area.
