Pb3O4 又称铅丹、光明丹,学名四氧化三铅。鲜橘红色粉末，加热时能变成暗红色，冷却后颜色复原。温度超过500℃时,分解为氧和一氧化铅。不溶于水和乙醇，溶于热碱溶液和冰醋酸。具氧化性，红丹古代用作颜料，有“丹粉”、“朱粉”、“红铅”之称。红丹的天然矿物在自然界中极少，产物几乎都由人工合成而得。工业制法是将青铅加热熔融，通以空气氧化成一氧化铅，再加热进一步氧化为红丹，反应如下：
红丹有很强的防腐能力，常用作防锈颜料，也用作陶瓷的釉料、搪瓷的着色剂。因红丹有毒，在生产时要注意防护，在空气中最大容许剂量为0.15mg/m3。
