| 火器 中国古代火药兵器的简称。北宋初年，出现了用火药制造的火箭、火毬等。《武经总要》列举的火药兵器有火毬、火药鞭箭、蒺藜火、霹雳火等多种，原始的火药兵器开始装备军队，宣告了冷兵器时代结束，从此中国古代兵器的发展步入了新时代。火器的使用自北宋经南宋、元、明到清朝第一次鸦片战争（1840）以前 ，延续约9个世纪。在此期间，随着火药性能的提高和新技术的应用，新的威力更大的火器不断问世，如南宋发明的铁火砲、火枪类火器，元代发明的火铳，以及明代仿制的鸟铳（枪）、佛郎机铳和红夷炮，并在战争中起着越来越大的作用。但是清代特别是18世纪中叶以后，火器发展停滞。直至第一次鸦片战争，中国古代火器始终和冷兵器并用。
